Camden County Breaks Down Silos Between Police and Fire Dispatch with Mark43 CAD

With its cloud-native CAD, dispatchers now share the same operational picture, responders receive critical information instantly, and Camden County is saving time, reducing errors, and strengthening public safety.

The Camden County Communications Center is the largest 9-1-1 Public Safety Answering Points (PSAP) in Camden County, New Jersey. Upgrading from a decades-old on-premises CAD to Mark43’s cloud-native platform was more than a technology shift, it was a leap forward in efficiency, interoperability, and community safety.

Shared Operational Picture Across Police, Fire and EMS

By consolidating police, fire, and EMS into a single interoperable CAD, Camden County eliminated delays that once required multiple phone calls between dispatchers, impacting response times and public safety outcomes. Now, all responders can share real-time updates in the same system, enhancing situational awareness and collaboration.

“The biggest difference I noticed between Mark43 and our old CAD immediately was the speed — it was extremely slow, laggy. We would often have crashes that would slow down the way we would get our resources, and it was a pretty common issue. With Mark43, everything’s fast and seamless. I can see police, EMS, fire and don’t have to interrupt their process. I can see all the notes at one time and everything’s quick, easy and good to go.” – Terron Morman, Police Dispatcher

Faster, Smarter Dispatching

The new platform directly impacts response times. “Mark43 helps us capture critical information more quickly because of the cloud-first system,” shared Ian Wright, Police Dispatcher.

“Mark43 is the leader in the public safety CAD community. The tools that our dispatchers have now is one thousand times better than what we previously had.” – Anthony Dolce, CAD Administrator/Academy Instructor

Police Officer and Part-Time Dispatcher, Steve Burns underscored the outcome: “The Mark43 system streamlines communications. As call notes are coming in, we’re able to see those in real time. Sometimes dispatchers are busy and cannot get information to us in a timely fashion, but with Mark43 we can see these in the car and respond quickly.”

Real-Time Tools in the Field

For the first time, Camden’s responders see what dispatchers see — from their patrol cars, fire trucks, ambulances, and even administrative offices. “We’ve never had a system that allows our first responders to see the calls as they are being entered by the call takers and live updates as they are coming through,” explained Annemarie Tonelli, Fire Dispatcher. “They’re getting the information sometimes faster than we can give it to them.”

“The responders now have that real-time information at their fingertips,” shared Dolce. Joe Cornforth, Chief Fire Marshal at Cherry Hill FD added, “Being able to view the data live… we’re able to get better situational awareness, safety, and operational effectiveness.”

Reliability, Resilience, and Cost Control

County leadership has also realized long-term benefits. By eliminating on-premises servers, Camden reduced maintenance costs while ensuring resilience.

“One of the great parts about Mark43 is as technology changes and enhancements are made, those enhancements are shared. There is no additional cost to things that grow with you.” – Chief of Communications Eric Hoban

Supporting Dispatchers and Retention

Most importantly, the system has improved dispatcher morale and retention. Morman shares, “I know that dispatch centers are very short staffed all over the country and the turnover rate is pretty bad at the moment, but I would think that with a system like Mark43 that is so easy to use, you’d be a lot more successful at retaining your new employees.”
