The New Orleans Police Department (NOPD) is stepping up its game in public safety, laying out a fresh strategy with the full deployment of the Mark43 Platform — a move that propels the force into the future with a sophisticated cloud-native Records Management System and Analytics solution. As reported on the City of New Orleans website, this tech advancement equips over 1,400 officers within NOPD and another 18 agencies, enhancing their ability to serve and protect, both the citizens of New Orleans and its plethora of visitors.

Making waves in law enforcement operations, this modernization initiative, which spans two enterprise-scale data migrations including more than 13 connected interfaces, has now positioned NOPD as a leading example in the region for embracing digital change. “This technology deployment demonstrates our commitment to innovation and public safety for the City of New Orleans,” Mayor LaToya Cantrell stated, signalling a merging of improved community relations and modern policing. The NOPD Superintendent of Police, Anne Kirkpatrick, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the system’s capacity to “save valuable time in the field, improve accuracy, and enhance the department’s ability to deliver the highest quality of service to our community,” according to the City of New Orleans website.

New Orleans, known for major events like Mardi Gras, is enhancing public safety through the deployment of the Mark43 system. The platform will support NOPD officers and enable coordination with other agencies, including the Louisiana State Police. Bob Hughes, CEO of Mark43, called the 15-month rollout a “Completing such a complex deployment in just 15 months is a testament to NOPD’s commitment to innovation, teamwork, and better serving their community through modern technology. With neighboring agencies like the Louisiana State Police also on the Mark43 platform, we’re seeing how collaboration and connectivity strengthen the entire public safety ecosystem. We look forward to a strong partnership with Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick and the entire NOPD team,” highlighting the strengthened partnership with neighboring law enforcement agencies.

The NOPD is undergoing a major operational overhaul with the rollout of the Mark43 system, backed by a $30 million investment from the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). According to Chief Information Officer Kimberly LaGrue, the system ensures compliance with federal and state data reporting standards, a key factor in maintaining federal funding. Nathaniel Weaver, Director of the Justice Tech Modernization Program, emphasized that the transformation focuses on system unification, partner collaboration, and data consolidation. NOPD’s Director of Analytics, Jessica Nezat, highlighted that “For the first time in our history, NOPD will report fully to LIBRS and NIBRS, a significant milestone as the department continues to navigate the challenges of modern-day intelligence-led policing and the need for transparency capabilities,” marking a milestone in modernizing intelligence-led policing and enhancing transparency, according to the City of New Orleans website.

With real-time insights now at their fingertips, NOPD’s day-to-day operations and long-term planning are expected to get a significant boost. Mark43 Analytics aims to revolutionize resource allocation, crime trend analysis, and public transparency — a win for community safety and the enforcement of the law alike. The technological leap is seen as a key to reopening doors to federal grants requiring detailed and comprehensive reporting, a critical asset for the ongoing growth and modernization of New Orleans.
