Mark43's mission is to empower communities and their governments with new technologies that improve the safety and quality of life for all. We build powerful, scalable, and elegant software that sets a new standard for the tools upon which our first responders rely. Our users are diverse, and we are therefore committed to embracing diversity of thought and experience within our team.

We are looking for a Software Developer to join our Security team. You will be a key contributor to building an entirely new cybersecurity product line at Mark43. This is a rare Green Field opportunity where you will help shape not just the technology but also the process by which we build, test, and iterate. You will be encouraged to fail fast, challenge norms, and explore new ideas in pursuit of creating accessible and effective tools that help governments manage cyber and compliance risks.

What You’ll Do

If you were part of our team, here are some things you would have done last week:

  • Designed and prototyped a new feature for our cybersecurity platform aimed at simplifying compliance workflows for local government IT teams

  • Collaborated with Product to test early concepts with pilot customers and incorporated their feedback

  • Integrated an AI-powered component to streamline risk detection and reporting

  • Partnered with Security leadership to establish scalable architecture principles for our new product suite

  • Wrote unit and integration tests for a new service module

  • Participated in a cross-functional brainstorming session to identify innovative ways to make complex cybersecurity concepts user-friendly

What You’ll Need

We’re looking for a Software Developer with 5+ years of professional experience. This level of experience is important because you will be working in an ambiguous and evolving domain, helping to make foundational technical decisions, and balancing speed with long-term maintainability.

Must-haves:

  • 5+ years of hands-on software development experience using Java, React and TypeScript

  • Demonstrated experience working on cybersecurity or compliance-related products

  • Familiarity with tax or other highly regulated domains is a plus

  • Experience incorporating AI/ML into product features

  • Strong understanding of modern development practices, CI/CD, and secure coding standards

People who thrive on our team also tend to share the following characteristics:

  • Self-starter: You take initiative, seek out new challenges, and drive work forward independently

  • Curious: You ask questions, explore new technologies, and push boundaries

  • Mission-driven: You care deeply about creating technology that improves public safety and supports government partners

  • Comfortable in ambiguity: You operate well in Green Field environments where goals evolve and experimentation is encouraged

Our team is remote-first, with teammates distributed across North America. We embrace flexibility while also creating intentional moments for collaboration, brainstorming, and team-building.

We feel passionately about equal pay for equal work, and transparency in compensation is one vehicle to achieve that. Total compensation for this role is market competitive, including a target base annual salary range of $155,000-$185,000, plus bonus opportunity, company stock options, and a full benefits package, including health insurance, paid time off, and a 401k plan. Please note that the higher end of this range will be reserved for candidates with appropriate experience who reside in high cost of labor markets.
